Coming up with unique presents for delivery on mothers day can be a challenge. Television, radio and magazines are never short of suggestions of things that we can buy, but if you are creative, you are likely thinking of a special and personal way to express your love.
Do you remember the craft projects that you used to make at school and that you brought back proudly to your mom. There was a shared joy in such moments. It was a mutual sense of happiness inspired by a personal expression of creativity. Though it’s been years since we’ve attended grade school, there is no reason why we can’t share in those wonderful feelings again.
A great way to do this is to share one of your photographs in a very personal way. Choose an image and then in a word processing file write about a special memory that you have of the mother in your life. It doesn’t have to be long. Choose whatever font you prefer and size the text for 28 pt. and save.

Next open up an image in Photoshop and follow the following steps and create a print that not only shows off your talents as a photographer.

With a vertical image open, go to Image > Canvas Size. A dialog box will open which will provide the Current Size and New Size dialog boxes. In the New Size dialog box, go to Width and double the existing width of the image. At the bottom of this dialog box, you will see a grid of nine squares with eight arrows. In the first column, choose the center box, which will shift the existing arrows to the left. Make sure that white is the chosen color for the Canvas Extension Color at the bottom of the Canvas Size dialog box and click OK.

Your image will now have a blank white area to its right providing a space for text. Next click on the Marquee tool in your Toolbar and drag a rectangle around the area where you will drop in your text.
Now return to the word processing program and copy the text, which you’ve written earlier. Return to Photoshop and paste the text into the image. It should fall within the blank area you created. If the text appears too small or too large undo the paste into the image and return to the word processing file. Change the text size as appropriate and paste the text into the image.

The final step is to resize the entire print so that it can fit into a nice frame. Click on the Crop tool in the Toolbar. In the Crop tool dialog box type in a Width of 11 and a Height of 8.5 and set the resolution for 300 dpi. Now, drag the crop box around your image. You will find that the crop will not encompass your entire image. Simply center the crop using the center indicator and double click within the image area. The image will be cropped for an 8.5x11 print.
