Once every few years we are blessed with a celestial event, a partial or total lunar eclipse. On February 20, we witnessed the last total lunar eclipse until 2010. I took advantage of the situation, and clear sky’s in southeastern Michigan to put together some cool shots of the event.

The first two parts of this extended article on fall color shooting included info and tips on shooting waterfalls and fall color. In this third part, I’ll talk about all that other stuff that comes along on a 4-day roadtrip. For instance, recently inspired by BetterPhoto instructor Jennifer Wu’s work on shooting the Milky Way, I wanted to try some of that action myself, with some success! I sat in on Jennifer’s WOW session at the BetterPhoto Summit last month, and it reminded me of my aspirations I’ve had for astrophotography.

In the last article entry, I spoke of traveling to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (also called the “U.P.”) shooting many waterfalls as I went. Though it was a 4 day trip, traveling between known and unknown U.P. waterfall sights, my intent was to shoot whatever fall color came my way between stops.

For me, September and October are busy months for shooting nature. In my area of the world, specifically Michigan, it is fall color time. While one million are preparing to head north in the next few months for deer hunting season, I prepare in August planning my annual trek “up-north” for my kinda shooting, with a camera.
